You are not in control what happens around you, but you are always in control of what happens within you.
Namaste, I’m Dr. Katharina Austermann from Germany. Ever since I could speak, I’ve been driven by an insatiable curiosity, constantly asking, “Why?” I grew up in a small village in the Eifel, surrounded by forests and nature, where I spent countless hours outdoors, deeply connected to my intuition.
In my late twenties, while working at the University of Bonn as a research assistant, I realized that my head-based studies were causing me to lose touch with my inner wisdom. Seeking to reconnect with my intuition, I started practicing Yoga asana. Almost immediately, I knew I had found something that spoke directly to my soul.
True to my inquisitive nature, I wanted to move deeper and decided to pursue a Yoga teacher training, learning from Indian teachers to understand the roots of this wonderful practice.
Reflecting on my childhood, I realized that in many ways, I had been practicing Yoga all along by being close to nature and listening to the guidance within. This realization inspired me to start teaching Yoga and share this life-changing practice with others.
While in Bali, I met Sandeep. Our connection was instant, blossoming into a deep love. Together with his brother Ankur we founded Anandam Yoga School.
Our mission is to share the transformative practice of Yoga, spreading its wisdom not only in India but across the globe.
I am deeply fascinated by the science behind Yoga and love combining the philosophy of Yoga with modern scientific research. I aim to bridge ancient wisdom with contemporary knowledge, leading people back to their inner knowing to live a life according to their soul’s purpose.

Putative Effects of Nutritive Polyphenols on Bone Metabolism In Vivo — Evidence from Human Studies
Authors: Katharina Austermann, Natalie Baecker, Peter Stehle, Martina Heer · Affiliation: Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences, Nutritional Physiology, University of Bonn
A systematic review examining how dietary polyphenols found in plant foods affect bone metabolism in humans. Covers clinical intervention studies on flavonoids, hydroxycinnamic acids, and stilbenes. The physiological principles in this paper underpin the nutrition and bone health content taught across Anandam's anatomy modules.

Antioxidant Supplementation Does Not Affect Bone Turnover Markers During 60 Days of Head-Down Tilt Bed Rest
Authors: Austermann K, Baecker N, Zwart SR, Fimmers R, Frippiat JP, Stehle P, Smith SM, Heer M · Affiliation: University of Bonn + NASA Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center
A randomized controlled trial conducted as part of NASA spaceflight simulation research, examining whether antioxidant supplementation can prevent bone loss during extended physical immobility. The findings on bone physiology under physical stress directly inform how yoga practice supports long-term musculoskeletal health.

Effects of Antioxidant Supplementation on Bone Mineral Density, Bone Mineral Content and Bone Structure During 60 Days of Bed Rest
Authors: Katharina Austermann, Natalie Baecker, Sara R Zwart, Rolf Fimmers, Peter Stehle, Scott M Smith (NASA), Martina Heer · Affiliation: University of Bonn + NASA Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center
A follow-on NASA randomized controlled trial examining changes in bone mineral density, mineral content, and bone structure during extended immobility with antioxidant supplementation. Provides the physiological research foundation for understanding how regular physical practice including yoga contributes to bone density maintenance across the lifespan.
