Meet Your Practitioner

Dr. Katharina Austermann

I hold a PhD in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Bonn, where I worked on international intervention studies exploring the relationship between nutrition and health.

Over time, I became increasingly drawn to women’s hormonal and metabolic health, because I saw how many women feel disconnected from their bodies, overwhelmed by conflicting advice, and unsupported in the complexity of what they are experiencing. I work most often with women dealing with PCOS, menopause, weight regulation difficulties, fatigue, and stress-related imbalances, as these issues are often deeply interconnected through metabolism, hormones, and the nervous system. What makes my work different from a standard nutrition approach is that I am not interested in quick fixes or rigid protocols, but in helping women understand their individual physiology and develop a way of eating and living that feels nourishing, sustainable, and supportive long-term.

Alongside evidence-based nutrition, I integrate perspectives from yoga and Ayurveda to support stress regulation, nervous system balance, and a more connected relationship with the body.

Conditions I Work With

Every woman's hormonal and metabolic picture is unique.
These are the areas where I focus most of my work.

PCOS

Support for insulin resistance, androgen balance, and cycle regulation through evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle strategies tailored to the individual hormonal and metabolic patterns often associated with PCOS. The approach also integrates stress regulation and yoga-inspired practices, as chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation can play an important role in hormonal balance and PCOS symptom severity.

Hormonal Health

Menopause and Perimenopause

Support for the metabolic and hormonal changes associated with perimenopause and menopause, including weight changes, fatigue, sleep disturbances, mood fluctuations, and changes in energy levels. The approach focuses on stabilizing blood sugar, supporting muscle and metabolic health, and reducing the impact of chronic stress on hormonal regulation and overall well-being.

Hormonal Health

Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Health

Work focused on the underlying metabolic patterns that can contribute to persistent weight gain, unstable energy, cravings, and difficulty feeling satisfied after meals. By addressing blood sugar regulation, appetite signaling, stress physiology, and daily rhythms, the goal is to support a more stable metabolism and create sustainable changes in energy, body composition, and long-term health.

Metabolic Health

Fatigue and Cortisol Dysregulation

Support for women experiencing persistent fatigue, stress-related exhaustion, difficulty recovering, or feeling constantly wired but tired despite rest. The work focuses on understanding how chronic stress, irregular rhythms, blood sugar fluctuations, and nervous system overload affect energy, hormones, and recovery capacity. The goal is to restore a more stable sense of energy, resilience, and balance throughout the day.

Nervous System

Weight Regulation

Sustainable weight management grounded in metabolic science rather than calorie restriction. Instead of focusing on willpower or strict dieting, the approach explores the underlying hormonal, metabolic, and stress-related patterns that can make weight regulation feel difficult or exhausting. The aim is to help women feel more balanced, nourished, and supported in their relationship with food and their body.

Metabolic Health

An Individualized Approach

These conditions are often deeply interconnected through metabolism, hormones, and the nervous system. Rather than applying standardized protocols, every program is tailored to your individual physiology, history, and goals - combining evidence-based nutrition science with perspectives from yoga and Ayurveda to support sustainable, long-term change.

Book a Consultation
Not sure if this is the right fit? The most common starting point is a 60-minute initial consultation via Zoom, where we discuss your health history, current symptoms, and goals in full. No commitment required beyond that first session. Contact info@anandamyogaschool.com with any questions.

How It Works

A gradual, individualized process — not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Step One

Initial Consultation 60 min · via Zoom

We begin with an in-depth conversation covering your health history, current symptoms, dietary patterns, lifestyle, stress levels, and goals. The aim is to understand the broader metabolic and hormonal picture before making any recommendations - rather than applying a generic protocol.

Step Two

Assessment and Individualized Strategy Tailored to your physiology

Depending on your situation, this may include tools such as continuous glucose monitoring to better understand how food choices, stress, sleep, and physical activity affect your blood sugar and energy levels. Together, we use these insights to identify the underlying patterns influencing your metabolism, hormones, and overall well-being.

Step Three

Gradual Integration and Ongoing Support Sustainable change over time

Rather than introducing a standardized nutrition plan, we gradually implement nutritional, lifestyle, movement, and stress-regulation strategies in a way that feels realistic and sustainable. Regular follow-up sessions allow us to track progress, adapt the approach, and support long-term change rather than temporary fixes.

No rigid plans. No quick fixes. The pace and depth of each step depends entirely on your individual situation and goals. Some clients move through all three steps within the Foundation Program. Others prefer to take more time. The process is designed to be flexible, humane, and genuinely supportive - not a protocol you have to keep up with. Completing my 300 hour yoga teacher training was an amazing experience. From the beginning, it was clear that this program was far beyond simply deepening my physical practice.

Ashtanga and arm balancing were challenging and fun at the same time, I loved it.

The teachers were authentic, knowledgeable and so supportive. It felt like spending time with friends.

I left this program stronger with a more refined teaching practice and a deeper understanding of yoga. I feel more grounded, more confident and more inspired.

I highly recommend this training. Thank you for this wonderful experience and time together.

I completed the 50-hour yin yoga training with Sandeep and Katharina and I am incredibly happy I found them. The training was above all professional: they have a lot of knowledge and know how to convey it in a very pleasant and clear way.
Moreover, Sandeep and Katharina quickly create an atmosphere of connection and trust, which has a positive effect on the group dynamics. I met lovely people and enjoyed being together during these six days. I am very grateful for this wonderful week and hope to stay in touch. I would happily choose their expertise again if I ever consider continuing my development.
Last but not least: the location was fantastic. What a gift to start every morning with a view of the sunrise and a view of Heimbach waking up!
Thank you so much, Katharina and Sandeep.

I took the 50h yin YTT in december and I had such a good time! Katharina and Sandeep have so much knowledge about the topics being discussed, such as anatomy of the body and about yogic philosophy.

A highlight for me was definitely the anatomy classes. You learn a lot about how the body works and how that connects to yin yoga, and also how your body can get the most benefits from yin classes, for example by adjustments you can make that work for you (or for your yoga students). I asked a lot of questions during the anatomy classes, and Katharina was able to give me a good answer every time!

Katharina and Sandeep really make you feel comfortable from the beginning on, for example by giving you a warm welcome and providing some snacks when you arrive. Every meal you eat together with the whole group, which makes you feel even more like you can ask everything to them and it creates connection and a cozy and warm atmosphere.

Another highlight for me was the hotel owner Katryn and the food she makes!! She cooks delicious and healthy (mostly plant-based) food and also works really hard to make sure that everyone is happy in her hotel!

All in all it was a really nice experience and I really feel like I will be able to add so much more depth and knowledge to my yoga classes now 🙂

I was so fortunate to attend a Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Katharina and Sandeep in Heimbach. The course was enriching on a very high level and felt truly authentic. Even after teaching yoga for three years, I learned so much. There was plenty of time for questions and space to explore different topics related to Yin Yoga in depth.

I can warmly recommend this training with two dedicated teachers who genuinely enjoy sharing their knowledge and wisdom, bringing a beautiful touch of India to Heimbach.

The course location offered a calm and peaceful environment, nourishing food, and the most amazing view during practice.

I am deeply grateful that the Anandam Yoga School — and Katharina and Sandeep — found me!

I had the most wonderful experience completing my 50-hour Yin Yoga teacher training course in Heimbach, Germany. Firstly the location was absolutely beautiful, peaceful, surrounded by nature, and the perfect setting for yoga. The stay was also so comfortable, cozy and welcoming, it really felt like home from the very first day.

It was a small group, which made it even more special. We had so many opportunities to ask questions, share, and learn deeply, it felt like a little family by the end. The teaching was traditional and authentically rooted in Indian yoga philosophy, which made the experience even more meaningful.

This course has completely opened up my knowledge and inspired me to delve much deeper into yogic philosophy and practice. I feel so much more connected to the true essence of yoga and am motivated to continue learning and incorporating the whole philosophy into my daily life.

Because of the teachers’ authenticity, passion, and dedication to sharing the true essence of yoga, I now feel confident to begin sharing the practice myself. They reminded me that yoga isn’t about performance or all the bells and whistles, but about being genuine, present, and offering a meaningful practice that truly supports people in their daily lives.

I met some lovely people and it was truly nourishing for the body, mind, and soul. I couldn’t recommend this course enough 🙂

Yin yoga teacher training, Oct 2025, Heimbach

Katharina and Sandeep are gracious, warm, dedicated yogic practitioners and teachers; a dedication which shines through in every aspect of their being. I suffer from chronic joint pain and had felt disempowered to broaden my asanas practice for this reason, but with patience and care they illustrated to me how yoga is for everyone- and how our limitations can lead to the greatest wisdom. After this teacher training, I feel empowered in my own body, but I also feel empowered to teach and hold space for people who need to navigate their own physical limitations. Katharina and Sandeep have an extremely strong theoretical foundation in Chinese medicine and Indian yogic tradition, combined with Katharina’s extensive knowledge within western nutrition, anatomy and physiology. They answered all our questions with eagerness and openness, and every teaching felt like a blessing and a warm ritual. They prioritise community, humor and knowledge in their yogic approach. I felt extremely safe in their capable hands during the entire training. Namaste and thank you!

Together, they created a heartwarming space for growth, learning, and appreciation. Every person’s opinion mattered, and all questions were welcomed with openness.
The knowledge shared about yoga-its history, philosophy, anatomy, and teaching methods-was truly extensive. As students, we were given the opportunity to explore different styles of yoga, including Hatha Yoga, Hatha Flow, Vinyasa Flow, and Yin Yoga.

The 300 hour advanced Yoga Teacher Training in Germany with Sandeep and Katharina has been one of the most powerful and transformative experiences of my Yoga journey.

The program is rooted in Ashtanga Vinyasa and gave me a strong foundation to master arm balancing and advanced transitions. Sandeep’s wisdom in philosophy and traditional practice, combined with Katharina’s supportive and precise teaching style, created the perfect balance of tradition and modern application.

I also loved the in-depth study of Yoga philosophy, anatomy, pranayama, and meditation. Training in a small group setting created a warm, international community where I felt safe to grow and expand as both a student and a teacher.

For anyone looking for a 300h Yoga Teacher Training in Germany, especially if you want to deepen your Ashtanga Vinyasa and arm balancing practice,
I wholeheartedly recommend Anandam Yoga School with Sandeep and Katharina.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with clients outside Germany?

Yes. All sessions are via Zoom. I work with clients across Europe, the UK, North America and Australia.

Yes, both.

At the moment, the programs are not covered by health insurance and are offered as private services. The work is highly individualized and combines evidence-based nutrition with integrative approaches such as stress regulation, yoga-based practices and lifestyle support, which are typically not included within standard insurance models.

What is the difference between your approach and a standard nutritionist?

My work goes beyond creating meal plans or focusing only on calories and weight loss. With a background in nutritional science and research, I look at the broader interaction between metabolism, hormones, stress physiology, sleep, nervous system regulation, and lifestyle patterns that can influence women’s health. Rather than applying standardized protocols, I use an individualized and gradual approach that combines evidence-based nutrition with practices inspired by yoga and Ayurveda to support long-term, sustainable change. The goal is not only to improve symptoms, but to help you better understand your body and build a healthier relationship with food, stress and overall well-being.

Yes. Anandam offers both Pillar A (Katharina’s metabolic and hormonal nutrition program) and Pillar B (Sandeep’s yoga therapy program) and the two can be combined for clients dealing with conditions where both nutrition and somatic yoga work are beneficial – such as burnout, chronic stress, or PCOS with an anxiety component.
