Yoga Styles: Yin Yoga

Join our Yin Yoga teacher training in Canada and learn more about this meditative Yoga style. This 50 h Yin Yoga program is intended to provide you with a thorough knowledge of Yin Yoga to help you uncover the fundamental principles of this passive Yoga style. This will allow you to share this potent practice with your students.

Yin Yoga class

Yin yoga is based on Daoist Yoga and blends old Indian customs with the Chinese meridian system.

The Founder of Yin yoga, Paul Grilley took inspiration from Paulie Zink’s grace and fluidity in his movements. Paulie Zink taught Daoist yoga and Kung-fu, which involved holding positions for extended periods of time.

Yin Yoga is a potent, calm, and subtle style of yoga that has a deeper effect on ligaments, joints and fascia. This style of yoga combines deep opening and passive asanas, pranayama, and meditation. The postures are primarily performed on the floor and held for extended periods of time which has a significantly deeper effect on the tissues and energy flow due to its longer pose-hold times. While the asanas of Yin Yoga are based on Indian Hatha Yoga, they are practiced in a different way.

This course is embedded in the YACEP program of Yoga Alliance and you can add the 50 hours of this course to your continuous education hours.

Program Highlights

Yin Yoga essential elements
Long-held poses provide the muscles time to unwind and the connective tissues a chance to stretch gently.
You perform the majority of yin yoga poses—either sitting or lying down—on the floor.
Yin Yoga requires less muscular activation than more dynamic forms of yoga. The gravity influence to act on the deeper tissues with a long holding in the posture.
Practitioners should pay attention to their breathing throughout the whole practice to develop mindfulness.
The connective tissues are the focus of the extended holds and deep stresses, which increase joint mobility and flexibility.
Yin Yoga enhances the mind-body connection helping people in achieving calmness and patience.
